Diane Woods - Biography

Celebrating Longhorns and Local Lupins, The Bluebonnets

Warming to Texas

Local artist, Diane Woods was raised in San Francisco in a military family, traveled extensively, and has now lived in Austin for more years than she has ever lived in any one place. She sees the world through a compositional lens, finding art in nature’s own designs which have fascinated her since childhood.

She doesn’t just paint Texas icons but reveals the sophisticated visual poetry that’s been hiding in plain sight on the range. This perspective elevates her work beyond regional art into something more universal. She explores the intersection of natural design, animal behavior, and pure visual composition, exactly the kind of artistic vision that resonates with serious collectors and art enthusiasts.

Diane has been painting in many media for decades and her work is collected across the United States and Europe. In this current mixed media collection, each piece is finished with oils. Each painting celebrated the beautiful forms of the animals and the choreography of their movements  - a kind of instinctive spatial awareness that's developed over generations and speaks to both their intelligence and their social nature.

She imagines  Vincent  Van Gogh encountering a herd of longhorns. The swirling energy he brought to sunflowers and starry skies would have found perfect expression in those horn curves and the dynamic interplay between the animals.

He would also be fascinated by both their individual character and their collective rhythm. How they navigate those impressive spans without constantly injuring each other!

She hopes you enjoy her work as much as she has enjoyed painting each piece.

These four original paintings: The Longhorns, Candelabra, Vigil, and Home in the Wild Blue are available only through
